Last Thursday we had our traditional Christmas get together and this year we did our story competition. The theme was Christmas in a genre. Talk about strict. There were just the four of us: Terry, Cathy, Nick and me. First order of business was to place our stories face down in a (small) pile. We then shared bread and wine and other Christmassy delicacies before shuffling the stories and reading them out at random. The idea is we guess the author of each piece. Terry and Cathy shared the huge prize money bonanza of £4. The stories included zombies, self abuse, surveillance and aliens. What genres could they be? I might put the stories up so you can judge.
On Saturday the 6th December, I went to Bridget Whelan's launch party for A Good Confession. I only got to speak to Bridget by buying a copy and having her sign it. That's a Christmas present, so I've had to order another copy from my library (support your local library, you know it makes sense). There was a good band playing, The Celtic Tigers. I'm looking forward to reading it.
Cheers and here's to a good year for the Rooinecks in 2009.
