May 2008

Being such a warm evening yesterday, the Rooinecks managed to find a spot on one of the National Theatre's terraces. Godwin presented his story, Maimouna, to Maya, Rowena, Nick and me. The story follows a young woman going into labour and reveals her predicament of having an unsupportive husband. The classic line was, he had nine months notice but still hadn't made it to the birth. There was a feeling that some good editing would enhance the poetic and compelling writing.

I did present another piece: The Animal Men. The others found it uncertain in tone and included too much information. I think it's up to me to decide whether it's a stand alone dialogue or to write it properly into my novel, The Causeway.
